Empowering Youth

​I run the Aadya Mentoring Programme and I am deeply passionate about bringing mentoring to as many young people as possible.

​

I’m an accountant by profession but I’ve always carried a creative spirit and a strong belief that life is all about trying new things and not limiting yourself to one path. On paper, it might look like I’ve built a stable career and life but it wasn’t always easy getting here.

​

I wasn’t dealt with the best hands in life and had all odds against me – responsibilities that arrived too early, low income background, a sibling who needed extra care, health challenges and not many role models/ support systems to help guide me. Confidence and direction didn’t come naturally, I had to navigate and figure out my way forward.

 

Growing up I had no idea about my potential or what was out there to achieve in the big wide world. I felt the absence of role models and support systems.

I remember vividly one afternoon in my school library while revising, a thought came to me: “one day, when I’m successful, I’ll start my own mentoring programme.” I didn’t know much about life then but I was certain about this vision. Even now, I sometimes revisit that moment whenever I feel a bit lost in life. 

​

Around that time, I was supported by a programme called Realising Opportunities. It opened my eyes to higher education and gave me the chance to apply to universities I’d never thought possible for someone like me. I remember feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude for that – so much that I wrote a letter to them (I'm a lover of words if you haven’t guessed already…).

I will always remember the kind words they responded back with and the amazon voucher they sent as a thank you (which I spent on a nice set of gel pens that made my entire week!).

​

Being part of that programme planted a seed. It made me realise how much of a difference connection and support can make. I carried that into my adulthood and have spent the last few years mentoring young people through a charity called Reach Out in London.

​

I have had the pleasure of witnessing young people flourish and become so much more confident with just a little guidance and support. Some days it doesn’t even take much from my side, just a quiet presence or  simply praising how hard someone is trying.

​

Now, through Aadya Mentoring, I’m bringing together my personal journey, my professional skills and my mentoring experience to create a free programme that helps young people thrive. We focus on essential skills often left out of traditional education like financial literacy, self-reflection and emotional resilience because these are the tools that facilitate growth. 

​

This programme is free but asks for one thing in return: a genuine willingness to invest time and effort. The rewards will be far greater and will create ripples throughout young people's lives. If they are not ready for that just yet then that’s okay, I’ll be here when they are.

​

I believe that every opportunity to learn gives something back, if not now then later. Learning can never take anything away from you, not even your time.
