Get to Know Aadya: The Story Behind the Name and the Vision

Throughout the nine days of Navratri, the nine forms of Goddess Durga are worshipped and idols are decorated in vibrant colours and jewellery just like the picture above.
Name Origin
Aadya (pronounced “ah-dya”) is a name full of personal and spiritual meaning.
Aadya is another name for the Hindu Goddess Durga, the powerful protector of the universe. She represents strong feminine energy and the power to destroy evil.
Every year, between September and October, the Hindu festival Navratri is celebrated for nine nights. The word “Navratri” means “nine nights.” During these days, people honour Goddess Durga in nine different forms. The festival celebrates the story of Durga defeating the demon Mahisasura, who caused destruction and could only be defeated by Durga’s divine power.
There are many ways people celebrate Navratri through prayer, fasting, charity work, etc but one of the most popular ways is traditional dancing called Garba. People dress in colourful clothes, gather together and dance with joy and devotion.
Growing up, I was fascinated by Navratri. Every year, I looked forward to going to my local temple for the nine days of Garba. I loved the music, the energy, the outfits, the sense of community and the deep spiritual meaning behind it all. At that time, I didn’t have much in life but Navratri brought me immense joy and a sense of gratitude.
So, when I was thinking of a name for my mentoring program, Aadya came naturally to mind. Looking deeper into the meaning, I found it came from the Sanskrit word aadi, meaning “first” or “beginning.” I hadn’t known that before but it felt perfect.
When you act from the heart, everything aligns. The name Aadya beautifully matches the program’s purpose - to give young people that first stepping stone to ignite the power within themselves.
Aadya's vision
A world where every young person, regardless of background, has the tools, support and self-belief to grow into a confident, kind and empowered adult.
The journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step, even when you feel unsure or afraid.
This is where Aadya’s journey begins.
Along the way, there may be pauses to rest, reset, and refocus and that’s okay.
What matters is that the vision remains crystal clear, and the passion behind it continues to guide every step forward.
How will we achieve our vision?
Mentorship: Provide relatable, compassionate mentors who offer emotional support, guidance, and encouragement.
Self-Development: Introduce young people to self-awareness, reflection and growth mindset practices to build emotional intelligence and inner strength.

Long-Term Impact: Inspire young people to eventually give back by mentoring others, creating a cycle of growth, kindness and empowerment.
Wider Reach: Collaborate with schools and communities to deliver the program at scale. Inviting inspiring speakers and coaches to inspire young people.
